The bottom line

by wrinkler on August 19, 2012

The bills are all in.

I feel like we should play ‘Guess how much a broken neck costs’ lotto. The person who guesses closest without going over wins. Except I don’t know what he or she would win.

I used to do book giveaways, long ago, but Dancing Fairy and Half of Hoffman Bros. gave me a Nook when I was in the hospital. And, even though I decided against buying a Kindle. I love love love love love love love love love my Nook.

I love it because it’s light and I can download almost anything I might want to read onto it, and I have a wishlist of books I hear about that I think I might want to read, and I can read 40 page samples of books. Plus go online to see who’s doing what on FB and check email and watch things on Hulu and Netflix. Waste lots of time playing Solitaire. Listen to music.

AND I can read in bed at night without disturbing HHB. Sometimes, if I’m having trouble sleeping, I pick it up at 2 AM and read a paragraph or two and go back to sleep.

I highly recommend getting a Nook. But I’m not giving one away.

So since we’re not playing a guessing game, I’ll just tell you.

Ambulance = $2,000

Doctor’s fees = $29,000

Hospital stay = $50,000

So the grand total is $80,000, more or less.

I’m pleasantly surprised. I thought it would be more like $100,000.

And here’s the best part: my personal portion of this cost is about $3500.

Did you hear that sound? Like a sudden wind blowing through an open window? That was me, heaving a sigh of relief.

Somebody asked me yesterday how my neck was doing. And I said that bones take a long time to heal. I’m impatient, but I’m still the luckiest woman in the world.

Yes, I am.

Wow. Go, Kaiser. I’d be happy to chip in if it would help.

Seems to me like the best prize is you being here in one piece, lucky girl.

Hugs,
Jen
