How Wrink gets things done

by wrinkler on September 28, 2010

All day long, it’s me and the internets. I use them many times an hour to look up various things, like the SQUIRE standards for quality improvement reporting excellence. And stuff like that.
I absolutely could NOT do my job without them.
Of course, the problem is that the internets also contain much less useful things. Like [...]

The sweet smell of electrons

by wrinkler on June 1, 2010

We’ve already established that I’m a technology slut.
(Yes, spammers, I used the word “slut” in this post. The spam filter on the Wrinklecomments awaits your onslaught of offers for Cialis. Knock yourselves out.)
I love finding new ways to play with technology. This weekend, I figured out how to:
1. Make stuff on my Macbook play on [...]

Rich Care Bears

by wrinkler on February 4, 2010

A while ago, I raved about Dragon, the voice recognition software, which I use several days a week. Basically, whenever I have to write something longer than one paragraph, I put on my headset and talk my way through it.
The position of the microphone in front of my lips is critical. If it’s not just [...]

Dorknology

by wrinkler on January 20, 2010

On Sunday afternoon, sitting in a recliner with my new MacBook and my Blackberry, I figured out how to do two extremely cool things.
1. How to run a Windows operating system  and applications on my Mac, like so:

That’s a Mac dock on the left hand margin of the screen shot and Windows 7 in the [...]

Warning

by wrinkler on January 7, 2010

My seestah and Judie and I have been playing Bejweled Blitz on Facebook.
In case you don’t know what Bejeweled Blitz is, it’s a game where you use your mouse to move pretty little jewels around, one by one. When you make three or more line up,they disappear. You only have a minute. A good score [...]

Sheesh

by wrinkler on January 6, 2010

Effective January 1, the state of Oregon banned talking on a cellphone while driving. This is a good idea.
So I bought one of these:

It chirrups at me. At first, this was kind of fun. It’s a perky little digital sound, reminding me of how technosavvy I want to believe I am.
But then I realized it [...]

Stupid computer tricks

by wrinkler on December 31, 2009

This is my laptop, minus the bezel that covers the edge of the LCD screen.
The LCD screen that, until last week, was chock-full of vibrant HD images. Until I partially closed it on one earbud.
A very small earbud.
Let that be a lesson to you.
I tried to buy a replacement screen. The closest I could get [...]

Wrinklerushing

by wrinkler on November 24, 2009

There have been things around the house that have been driving me crazy and I decided to get them all taken care of this week–not a good plan to do it all in the same week, especially since there are technically only 2.5 days in the week but I’ve never been known for my brilliant [...]

Plumbers and pictures

by wrinkler on November 10, 2009

I get up at the crack of dawn. No, five days a week, I get up in plenty of time to witness the crack of dawn. It’s still dark, so technically speaking, I get up at the uttbay crack of dawn.
Several months a year, I’ve run a few miles and come back home by the [...]

And in my spare time

by wrinkler on November 6, 2009

I “edit” the electronic newsletter for DF’s school. “Editor” has really been more like “administrator.” I handed out user IDs and passwords and tinkered endlessly with little tiny type while engaging in redundant and monotonous button-clicking.
Last month, I had the bright idea of changing the whole thing over to a blog format. Just like this one–only without the [...]
